Frequently asked questions

Where are my notes stored? Can you see them?

Your notes stay on your device. GenieNote has no account system and no servers, so your handwriting, drawings, photos, and calculations are never uploaded and we cannot see or access them. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

How do I back up my notes?

GenieNote does not sync to the cloud, so your notes live only on the device that created them. They are included in your device backups, so we strongly recommend keeping iCloud Backup switched on (Settings › [your name] › iCloud › iCloud Backup) or backing up to a computer. If you delete the app or lose the device without a backup, the notes cannot be recovered — not even by us.

After updating, my storage dropped a lot. Is that normal?

Yes, and it is intentional. Earlier versions could leave behind large amounts of unused data. Version 1.0.6 cleans that up automatically the first time you open the app, so the storage GenieNote uses in Settings › General › iPhone Storage may shrink dramatically. Your notes are not affected.

Some old notes reappeared in my list after updating.

That same cleanup rescues notes that earlier versions had left stranded, so a note you thought was gone may return. If you no longer want it, delete it again — deletions now remove the note permanently and free up the space immediately.

My cut-out photo lost its transparent background and turned white.

This was a bug in an earlier version and is fixed in 1.0.6. Photos that were already flattened cannot be restored automatically, but you can select the image and run background removal once more — from then on the transparent background will be preserved when you close and reopen the note.

How do I remove ads?

Purchase GenieNote Premium from inside the app. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and it removes advertising.

I already bought Premium, but I still see ads (or I got a new device).

Open the Premium screen in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you used for the original purchase. If ads persist after restoring, email us and include the date of purchase so we can help.

How do the calculator numbers work?
  • Drag a result out of the calculator to drop it onto the page as a movable number.
  • Double-tap a saved number to add a short label such as “budget” or “total”.
  • Drag any number back into the calculator to keep working with it.
  • Tap an operator such as +, then tap a number already on the page to insert it instantly.
Does deleting a note actually free up space?

Yes. Deleting a note removes it and its photos from your device right away.

How do I request a refund?

All purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds must be requested through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are not able to process refunds ourselves, but do let us know if something went wrong so we can fix it.

I found a bug, or I have a feature request.

Please email us — feature requests genuinely shape what gets built next. For bugs, a screenshot or a short screen recording helps enormously.
